Recap, LSU Game, Life is Good :)

City Year Training Week 1.........check
  • Got a good feel of the neighborhood where I'll be working, and I like it quite a lot.  Harlem seems to really be growing.  There are new developments popping up everywhere.  I see a bright future for that particular neighborhood.  Also, out of all the different zones CYNY corps members will be working in, Harlem has the highest graduation rate.  Although it is still lower than the standard, it's still something to be proud of.
  • Another corps member and I had a little bit of difficulty working our way through the Bronx public transportation system, and it took us an extra hour to get home friday. JOY! Not the highlight of my day.
  • I enjoyed my "crazy team" this week.  (Crazy teams are temporary teams that we are put into each week during training)  We were all very different and quirky in our own ways, but we meshed well together as a unit.  I'm excited to see who will be on my team starting Tuesday--Monday off for labor day! WOO!
  • We did something called the "Leadership Compass" on Thursday to find out what our work styles are.  There was a 10 question survey to determine your "direction."  Well, wouldn't you know 6 out of my 10 answers were "West" meaning analytical, detail-oriented, organized, etc.  I had no idea I was so one sided!  In some cases, I guess that can be a good thing, but it will be something I work on this year to be less of one style and more balanced.  Always a good thing right?  :)
My first LSU football game with the AMAZING alumni chapter..........check
  • The game didn't start until 10:30 in New York, but that didn't stop the badass Alumni chapter from going crazy!  There were purple and gold shirts, screaming fans, hurricanes, beer, and food.  We all gather at a bar called Legends on 33rd and 5th.  They put the game on all of their tvs, have drink and food specials, and play LSU music!  It was SO good to hear pregame.  I'm going to miss being in the stadium with my friends so much, but this will definitely help to make me miss it just SLIGHTLY less.
Sending my laundry "out" for the first time....check
  • Speaking of sending laundry out, I love the convenience of New York. Subways are close by, there are 24 hour stores everywhere and you can always find cheap food SOMEWHERE.  It's great!

Sundays are me and Jan's "try new places to eat" days.  We decided that we are going to be good girls and make food at home all week, but each Sunday we'll go to a different place and try something new!  Today, I think we are getting brunch at a place called Regional.  $5 dollar unlimited mimosas!

Have a great day everyone!
